Using Trash & Recovering Files
When you delete a file in Onlinedrive, it goes to Trash first, giving you a chance to recover it before it's permanently removed.
Deleting a File
- Right-click the file or folder
- Select Move to Trash
- The item is moved to Trash but not permanently deleted
Viewing Trash
Open Files in the sidebar and click the Trash tab to see all deleted files.
Recovering a File
- Open the Trash tab in Files
- Find the file you want to recover
- Right-click and select Restore
- The file is restored to its original location
Permanently Deleting a File
- Go to Trash
- Right-click the file
- Select Delete Permanently
- Confirm the deletion
Warning: Permanently deleted files cannot be recovered. The storage space is freed up immediately.
Emptying Trash
To permanently delete all items in Trash at once:
- Go to Trash
- Click Delete All Permanently
- Confirm the action
This permanently deletes everything in Trash and frees up the associated storage space.
Important Notes
- Files in Trash still count toward your storage quota
- To free up space, you must permanently delete or empty Trash
- In shared workspaces, owners, admins and editors can delete any file
- Contributors can only delete their own files
