Storage Quota Explained
Understanding how storage quotas work helps you manage your files effectively.
What Is a Storage Quota?
Your storage quota is the maximum amount of data you can store in a drive account. It's determined by your plan — from 1 GB on Free and 250 GB on Lite up to 6 TB on Enterprise.
What Counts Toward Your Quota
- Files you own — Any file you've uploaded in any workspace you own
- Trash — Deleted files still count until permanently removed
- All file types count equally (1MB is 1MB whether it's an image or a document)
What Doesn't Count
- Shared files — Files shared with you by others don't count toward your quota
- Workspace member files — In workspaces owned by others, uploaded files count toward the owner's quota, not yours
Checking Your Usage
Quick Check
Look at the storage bar in the header of the Files view (next to the workspace chip).
Detailed View
Go to Account → Subscriptions to see exact usage numbers and quota details for each drive account.
When You're Near Your Limit
As you approach your quota:
- You'll see the storage bar fill up
- At 100%, new uploads will be blocked
- Existing files remain accessible for viewing and downloading
Freeing Up Space
- Delete unnecessary files — Right-click → Move to Trash
- Empty Trash — Files in Trash still count! Go to Trash and click Empty Trash
- Remove duplicates — Check for duplicate files across folders
- Archive old files — Download and store old files locally, then delete from Onlinedrive
Need More Space?
- Upgrade your plan for more storage
- Use a redemption code if you have one
- Check Account → Subscriptions for your current plan and the pricing page for larger ones
